Stratigraphic Analysis

We can apply our geologic expertise and experience to help you obtain the full value of your asset.

Stratigraphic Analysis

Understanding the depositional environment and stratigraphic architecture of an oil & gas reservoir is of paramount importance.  A geologist must analyze log character and core data to delineate reservoir quality and aerial extent.  Detailed reservoir characterization greatly enhances the ability to accurately predict reservoir productivity.

Diagenesis (alteration of the rock post deposition) is also a crucial factor to consider and understand.  Reservoir quality can either be improved or destroyed by diagenetic forces and a geologist must consider this history in predicting reservoir performance.

Prograding siliciclastic sequences in the Upper Cretaceous interval of the Powder River Basin.  Normalized gamma ray logs with lithologic color scheme clearly distinguish sand and shale variations within the basin and overall stratigraphic architecture.

Regional and Localized Formation Top Picking

    • Identification of changes in depositional environment and lithology from well logs.
    • Leverage differences in accommodation space and lithology to recognize potential stratigraphic traps.

Sequence Stratigraphy

    • Examine the major regional system tracts related to eustatic seas level change and integrate with localized sequence boundaries and flooding surfaces.

Core Analysis

    • Identify sedimentary structures and authigenic minerals from core studies to characterize depositional environment and later digenetic alteration.

Compositional and Compatibility Studies

    • Mineral and fluid examination to determine if completion fluids could adversely affect near wellbore reservoir permeability.
